Color Correcting Summer Skin Issues

Color Correcting Summer Skin Issues

21st Jun 2017

The long, hot days of summer are great for the soul, but can wreak havoc on the skin. As summer temps rise, a host of skin issues can rise to the surface. An increase in perspiration can cause acne flare ups and blemishes. Sun exposure may lead to a red rosacea complexion or a sunburn. Don't let these skin issues wear away at your confidence. Neutralize them! Last weekend we demonstrated how to do just that at The Makeup Show Chicago. In our Correct-It And Conceal-It: The Ultimate Guide To The Flawless Face seminar, makeup artist Megan Hill Luman, demonstrated how to make camouflage with color correcting - no heavy makeup needed.

"One of the things I like for people to understand, is that when we're neutralizing, we don't want to just add layers of makeup to conceal skin," said Hill Luman. She understands that people with skin issues are already sensitive to them, and that covering up with layers and layers of makeup like a mask will only make them feel worse. "With Correct-It, I don't need a lot of makeup because I don't have to conceal the underlying color," said Hill Luman.

How to cover skin issues without the heavy layers:

  1. First, apply a light layer of moisturizer, using a nourishing product like Cara Moisturizer. Hydration will help your makeup last.
  2. Prime the skin and create a barrier with a light layer of Velvet Finish Primer. It will help mattify the skin.
  3. Next, color correcting with Correct-It. Use Mint to cover redness, such as acne and rosacea. Daffodil for pink tones. Lilac for sallow shades. Tangerine and Sherbert for purple undertones and dark circles, for darker skin use Salamander. To apply, stipple on with a brush to effectively color correct the whole area and blend. The Correct-It cream formula is super color concentrated, but thin. So it covers, but doesn't feel heavy on the skin. If you see brush strokes, simply go over them with a slightly dampened Face Smoothie.
  4. Follow up with light-weight, but concentrated Conceal-It. Stipple on a shade that best matches your skin tone. Because Correct-It and Conceal-It are both cream products, Hill Luman recommends using a more synthetic brush to apply the Conceal-It so as not to remove the Correct-It when applying.
  5. Even everything out by patting on Celebré Pro HD Pressed Powder Foundation.
